The Franklin Fountain

INMarch 2007, Jamie and Bobby Deen, sons of Savannah food icon Paula Deen, filmed an episode of their television program "Road Tasted" at The Franklin Fountain on historic Market Street in Philadelphia. The Deen brothers listened, learned and tasted the 19th century experience served up by the Berley brothers, Ryan and Eric at their Victorian soda fountain.

The focus of the day was the old-fashioned clear toy candies that the brothers made together using the antique molds and candy kitchen in the cellar of the Fountain. Southern gentility, beautiful photography and brotherly banter characterized the afternoon. When the copper cooled and the sugar hardened, the Deen brothers ceremoniously tasted the product on "candied camera" in grand finale form.
